AACTLA is proud to be selected by the organizers at the 2014 NAPABA Convention to offer a CLE training. It is the first CLE presentation focused on criminal law at NAPABA in many years. Effective cross examination is an essential component of any trial attorney's practice, regardless of practice area or level of experience. With more than three decades of experience between them, our panelists will offer practical advice and instruction on how to handle adverse witnesses and draw out favorable information.

The first installment of AACTLA's Cross-Examination series will focus on the basic foundation of this critical trial skill. The seminar will begin with a detailed lecture about the fundamentals and will transition into small-group sessions where participants work on skills with senior trial attorneys. This training is recommended for all new practitioners and experienced litigators looking to review the basics.

Lake Temescal is easily accessible off of both Highways 24 and 13, although our picnic area (Landvale Picnic area) is adjacent to the parking lot off of Highway 24. The parking lot entrance is located at 6500-6502 Broadway, Oakland. Parking is $5 per car, so feel free to carpool. If you need a ride, let us know in advance and we'll try to arrange something for you.

Rebecca Young is a senior trial attorney in the Homicide Unit of the San Francisco Public Defender's Office and former supervisor of the felony Trial Unit. She was a recipient of the Advocate of the Year award by Women Defenders and the Gideon Award by the San Francisco Bar Association.
Vilaska Nguyen is the Mentorship and Training Director for AACTLA and has worked at the San Francsico Public Defender's Office since 2004 as a research fellow, misdemeanor, and felony trial attorney, handling low level drug to homicide matters.
